BIG WEEKEND FOR BOBBY MARTIN RACING
Jun 23, 2011
Author: Bobby Martin

Lots going on this weekend starting with a special guest appearance at the NHRA Summit Nationals at Summit Racing Equipment Motorsports Park in Norwalk. I was thrilled to receive an invitation from the folks at Norwalk for an autograph session Friday at 1pm. Any drag race fan will want to be there and here's why: The autograph session is for all champions of the Norwalk event. That means anyone who has ever won this race is invited, so you can meet and greet some of the top names in the sport! Also Shirley Muldowney will there and who knows what other legends from the past. I know I'm excited. Why don't you join us?

Then Saturday, we return to Pittsburgh Raceway Park for the Outlaw Pro Mod Shootout. This means anything goes, up to and including screw blowers. It's a run whatcha brung doorslammer event that's sure to feature some wild action under the lights. It will also be a big night for the Rush Willys team. You may have noticed there is no race report from Lancaster. That event was to be our competition debut with the all-new drivetrain. Yeah, new motor, converter, tranny, and rear. Not just replacements for last year's stuff, but a whole new combination. The rush (puns always intended) to get the car ready resulted in us not really being ready, and we never got past the burnout. Since then Spike has put in some serious hours on the car. We think everything is fixed and ready now. He likes everything to be the best, but the only way to know if it's right is to take it out and run it. So we will be attempting to make our first pass with the new combo at Pittsburgh. The car is also significantly lighter than last year. We can't wait to see what it'll do.

The track is at 538 Stone Jug Road New Alexandria PA 15670. It's on Route 22 East. Track phone is 724.668.7600. The first qualifying run for us is 4pm. Second qualifier is at 5:30 and first round is 7pm. We will try to get a shakedown run in before qualifying, but that's up to the track. Last time out at Pittsburgh we got into the show with some nice runs and got beat first round by a screw blower car. Some really cool cars show up for these things - blown, nitrous, and turbo. A killer show for the money. It's only 10 bucks. ("A ten to get yourself in.") Weather's looking good, they do a great job with the track, so let's fire 'em up! See you there!
