FROM THE BEACH TO THE 'BURGH
Sep 23, 2010 Author: Bobby Martin

Great Mopars, new and old, surrounded us at the final Tidewater Mopar Club show of the year Sept 18th at Hall Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram in Virginia Beach. Everything from a wild supercharged Charger SRT8 to a 12 second old school Dart sleeper made this show a real treat. The weather was great as it had been all week in the VB area. Lori and I fired up our CHARGER's big Hemi with the help of TMC president Butch Hora. The highlight for me was seeing Butch put on his "race face." He got intense, and the fire-up went off without a hitch. A big air show featuring the Navy's Blue Angels was going on at the same time, keeping us cognizant of the military aura of the VB area. Some serious cash was raised for Southern Virginia area food banks too. Thanks to Butch Hora and the whole Tidewater Mopar Club. I got a chance to meet legendary Super Stock champ Ed Miller at the TMC meeting. Also huge thanks to Hall General Manager Chris Colbert and General Sales Manager Mike Neher. They were wonderful hosts, and their dealership is absolutely first rate in every respect. Wanna talk bottom line? They sold 16 cars on the day of the show.

The following day I appeared with the CHARGER at Christ United Methodist Church in Youngwood PA, near Pittsburgh. That's right, the Funny Car was parked right outside the front door. There it is again: "We got the only Funny Car here!" I didn't fire the car but had the honor of delivering the message from the pulpit at both the 8:30 and 10:45 services.

Rush Willys update: An update is exactly what's happening. The Rush Willys is getting another face lift. You saw the huge new rear spoiler at Lancaster, then the finished version at Reading. Well, now the front end, which was conspicuously spoilerless, is having some aerodynamic enhancements done at Mike Spitzer's shop. The car just keeps getting meaner and meaner. We plan to make some appearances in October with the new-look Rush Willys. I'll keep you posted on those.
