If you think "1320 Pro Mod Warriors" sounds like a wild, extreme,
out-of-control drag racing series with shockingly over-powered, outrageous
race cars, you've got it right.
It's official. Spike Sterling has just signed with the ortheast Outlaw Pro
Mod Association. Although there are 64 state-of-the-art Pro Modified
creations in this mass of maniacs, Spike's totally insane "Rush" will be the
only '33 Willys in the series. Maybe it's because the shape of the car is
about as well suited to slicing through the atmosphere at 250 miles per hour
as a moving van. With its miniscule wheelbase and massive gobs of power
from 524 cubic inches of supercharged Jim Oddy motorvation, this car will
indeed be a wild buckin' bull. And guess who gets to rive?
One very cool thing about driving this series is there are some serious Pro
Mod hitters there. How about Tommy Gray and the infamous "Undertaker,"
Scotty Canon, one of the biggest names in all of Pro Mod history, Mike
Castellana (yes, THAT Mike Castellana, complete with the Al-Anabi
Firebird!), IHRA and NHRA Pro Stock standout John Nobile, and one of my
favorites, the incredible Chip King and his totally sick Dodge Daytona?
(The big, honkin' Mopar with the giant wing, not the little FWD car). It
will be a neat treat to get baptized into the door car world with these
guys. And I won't be the only TA/FC alum in the mix. Bruce Mullins, the
man responsible for the award winning paint scheme on the CAP CHARGER, and
Paul Athey, both of whom I have raced side by side with in Funny Cars, have
moved "behind closed doors."
NEOPMA (that's NorthEast Outlaw Pro Mod Association) kicks off the new year
at Virginia Motorsports Park with their 2nd Annual Extreme Pro Mod Event"Napa Day at The Drags." This event happens on Saturday, May 1st. VMP has
proven itself as one of the fastest tracks in the country, and the air
should be perfect for some huge horsepower. Another awesome element with
NEOPMA is their events. They will do cool stuff like the Super Chevy Show
at Maple Grove and NHRA Unleashed at Columbus.
Spike Sterling, the owner of Sterling Auto Body in Steubenville, Ohio is a
busy man. So we're still working on the question I've been asked so much
this off-season, "When does your season start?" But here's some of the
stuff we're discussing. We'd like to be ready for the May 1st Extreme event
at VMP. Spike also wants to return to Thompson for the Gasser bash June
4,5, and 6. Our good friend Bill Bader is planning an all-out assault on
the nostalgia world with Gasser Reunion IX 2010. That'll be July 4th
